Music

Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children.

At Whitley Lodge we aim to provide for every child the skills and understanding needed to ensure that they derive enjoyment and satisfaction from music, through active involvement in listening, composing and performing.

Music is fully accessible to all pupils at Whitley Lodge – children from Nursery to year 4 participate in music every week. Whole school singing occurs frequently during assembly and school celebrations.

The school choir is open to all children in year 3 and 4, and meets weekly during the Autumn and

Spring terms. The choir enjoy performing to the whole school, at local concert venues and are seasonal visitors to a local care home.

Children can also learn an instrument at Whitley Lodge, with recorder and violin lessons available every week from visiting music teachers. In addition, the basics for playing the recorder and glockenspiels are taught to all children as part of their music curriculum in Key stage 2.
